78 - The Law & The Kingdom

Leading up to Luke 16:14–18, Jesus has been instructing his disciples on faithful stewardship and the proper relationship to wealth through the parable of the dishonest manager. Rather than responding with self-examination, the Pharisees react with open contempt. Luke notes that they loved money, and they begin to mock Jesus as if his teaching were absurd. Their ridicule becomes the backdrop for Jesus’ pointed rebuke in Luke 16:14–18, where he once again exposes their hypocrisy, confronting them directly for justifying themselves while twisting God’s Law to preserve their own status and comfort.
