93 - Stumped By The Savior (Part 1)

May 3, 2026    Pastor Ronald H. Gann

In Luke 20:1–8, as Jesus teaches in the temple during Passion Week, the religious leaders—chief priests, scribes, and elders—confront Him and demand to know by what authority He acts. Rather than answering directly, Jesus counters with a question about the origin of John the Baptist’s ministry: was it from heaven or from men? The leaders find themselves trapped—if they affirm it was from heaven, they expose their own rejection of John; if they deny it, they risk the anger of the people who regarded John as a prophet. Choosing self-preservation over truth, they claim ignorance. In response, Jesus refuses to answer their question, exposing their unwillingness to acknowledge divine authority and highlighting the spiritual blindness and political calculation that govern their leadership.
