96 - Stumped By The Savior (Part 3)

Pastor Ronald H. Gann

In Luke 20:27–40, Jesus is confronted by the Sadducees, a religious group that denied the resurrection of the dead. Attempting to trap Him with a hypothetical question about marriage in the afterlife, they present the case of a woman who had been married to seven brothers in succession. Jesus responds by explaining that life in the resurrection is fundamentally different from earthly life: those raised from the dead neither marry nor die, but live eternally as children of God. He then points to God’s words to Moses at the burning bush—“the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob”—to show that God is the God of the living, not the dead, affirming the reality of resurrection life. The passage highlights Jesus’ wisdom, the certainty of eternal life, and the hope believers have beyond death.
